Samsung Galaxy Note 3 gets the KitKat treatment

Every OEM in the smartphone world is notoriously infamous for delaying the latest and greatest in terms of Android OS but the time lag is getting shorter by each version. The KitKat updating season in the world of Android Super Phones is already here and the next in line is the big guy from Samsung, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 GT-N9005.

The update is for the Qualcomm 800 SoC sporting Note 3 version (GT-N9005) with support for LTE but this means other devices are going to get Android 4.4.2 KitKat update pretty soon as well. The changes are on the lines of the leaked Samsung Galaxy S4 update - a few minor UI changes, a few bug fixes, a little bump in the benchmark scores. There is one thing Samsung has done with this update, i.e. implemented a new camera shortcut on the lockscreen (a concept already seen in Apple's iOS 7).

The rollout is happening a region at a time but if you are getting restless, you can get update using this build and the following steps.

Step 1: Download the 1.5 GB firmware file from here and extract(unzip) it.
Step 2: Download V 3.09 of Odin from either here or here and extract it.
Step 3: Open Odin V3.09 from the folder you created in Step 2.
Step 4: Restart your phone in download mode by pressing and holding Power Button + Home Button +  Volume Button (all together) until "Warning!!" message appears on the screen. Then select that you wish to start in Download Mode by pressing Volume Down button.
Step 5: Connect your phone to your computer and wait till you get a blue sign on Odin.
Step 6: Add BL_N9005XXUENA6_340325_REV03_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5 to BL, AP_N9005XXUENA6_340325_REV03_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5 to AP, CP_N9005XXUENA2_REV03_CL1277177.tar.md5 to CP and CSC_OXX_N9005OXXENA5_327209_REV03_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5 to CSC.
Note: Make sure re-partition is Not ticked.
Step 7: Click Start button and wait for a few minutes for it to complete. If you encounter any issues like Bootloop, FC etc then boot into recovery mode by pressing and holding Power Button, Home Button and Volume Up Button all at the same time. Choose to wipe your storage / SD card to factory settings and you are good to go. But take care that it will remove all the data on both your internal storage as well as external.
