India gets its first truly subsidized iPhone deal

Apple's latest and greatest are awaited around the world, in each country, but not all come in the priority list of Apple. India, due to its low average spending capability, has always been considered a not-so-exploitable market by the iPhone makers but, as it turns out, now they are starting to look the other way round and thus, to bring about some substantial growth of latest iPhone duos, they have struck a deal with Reliance Communications (RCom) network operator in India to bring nation's first ever truly and fully subsidized iPhone deal.

The deal is fairly simple. The customer needs to pay INR 2,599 (for iPhone 5C) and INR 2,999 (for iPhone 5S) per month for the contract period of 24 months in return of which they get the handset (16 GB model), unlimited local / std locals, free incoming and outgoing roaming, unlimited (upto 3,000 / month) text and unlimited 3G data on a Reliance GSM sim.

As confirmed itself by RCom representatives and customer care team, the "unlimited" part of the scheme has no catch whatsoever except in case of text messages, which has been implemented by TRAI (Telephone Regulation Authority of India) and not Reliance itself. RCom has also tied up with leading credit card partners (Standard Chartered, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and CitiBank) to offer this deal and make sure their revenue stream doesn't go away in case customer decides to bail.
