Apple unveils the new iPad lineup

Apple is the one that started it all for the tablet market and it has been at the top ever since. Android OEMs have been trying to figure out a way to get ahead but everytime they try to do that, Apple comes with the next generations of their tablets and swup ahead of the competition. After all the leaks, all the rumors, that's what has happened again. Apple has release two new tablets - iPad Mini 2 and iPad Air (the successor to iPad 4).

iPad Air

Apple has now renamed the lineup and iPad Air is the new successor to iPad 4. It is powered by the latest Apple A7 processor chipset and comes along with the M7 motion co-processor. It has still got the same 9.7" 1536 X 2048, retina display, screen. It also comes with 4G LTE support in the Wi-Fi + Cellular model.

The major change Apple has introduced is in the design department of the iPad Air. It is now 20% thinner than the previous one at just 7.5 mm, has much narrower bezel at 43% less than the previous one and has lost quite an amount of fat from 653g to 469g.

Unlike iPhone 5S, iPad Air does not a feature a Touch ID sensor. iPad Air comes in two color options - Silver and White, and Space Gray. And the storage options extend all the way upto 128 GB. It is supposed to hit the market on November starting from a price tag of 499$.

iPad Mini 2

The second unveiling of the day was the second iteration of Apple iPad Mini - Apple iPad Mini 2. It is powered by an Apple A7 processor as well and the M7 motion co-processor is present too. Although the screen is still a 7.9" IPS panel but the resolution has now been quadrupled to 1536 x 2048 cranking the pixel density to a crisp 324 ppi.

Again, TouchID Sensor is absent from this package as well but there is a bigger disappointment then that - the increment in thickness (of 0.3mm) as well as weight (331g). This may have been done to reinforce the internals so that the brand new shiny retina display remains a bit more secure but its a disappointment nevertheless.

It also has the two new color finishes, the Silver and White one, and the new Space Grey finish. It also comes in storage space option of upto 128 GB starting from 399$ and going all the way upto 829$.

Apple is already quite ahead of the competition in the Tablet universe but, now, with a practical 8" segment tablet and an amazingly light and powerful 10" segment tablet in its stores, its going to make everyone crave for its all-new babies.
