Need for Speed Rivals announced

Need For Speed is the most popular and played racing game series and EA has just given the ever growing fan base a reason to rejoice by announcing the next iteration in this arcade racing game series - Need For Speed Rivals.

The usual gameplay elements - you running around in the city in your fancy car and cops chasing the hell out of you - are still there but this time EA has come up with a very new feature, AllDrive. The feature is an attempt to make the game a never ending multiplayer one without having to sacrifice the single player mode. In essence, what AllDrive does is that it merges the game worlds of all your friends with you whether they are connected to you or not and thus making it a possibility that without even trying to, game pits you against your friend because you came across them as a racer in the game world. This can be an interesting concept assuming that EA pulls it off nicely.

Lets have a look at the teaser EA has released to compliment the announcement.

NFS Rivals works on the Frostbite 3 engine as well whose demo was first seen with Battlefield 4 demo.  The game is scheduled to hit the shelves on 19.11.2013 and expectantly to be released on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, XBOX 360, XBOX One and, of course, PC.

Today, Infinityward has released a couple of videos - one showing trailer of this upcoming title and the second showing the thought that went into the making.

According to Infinityward, this game is in a way departure from the traditional Call of Duty storyline and in-game features. Don't worry it is still gonna be an FPS - that ain't changing. But this time instead of saving a falling country, you play as one of the members of a super elite team made up of guys from US military forces trying to bring back the nation from turmoil.

Lets have a look at the trailer to know something about the storyline of this new First Person Shooter.

In the "Behind the scenes" video, InfinityWard tells us that it is proud to launch the new engine which is actually an evolutionary version of the last one rather then a revolutionary one. Also, for the first time you will have a dog by your side in the fight besides normal human soldiers.

There are some new gameplay elements as well. You can check out the full feature list that InfinityWard has got to show off in this "Behind the Scenes" video.

Google teases Android Key Lime Pie during I/O 2013

Google was expected to announce atleast some platform update to its Android Operating System during this year's I/O conference but all the fans got were updates that will come the respective application updates. But Google did not forget that they were expected to release some info about next Android iteration and they thought of exploiting exactly this by teasing the devs with images referencing to Key Lime Pie. And Google did it not once but twice.

Both the references came up during the talk by Android Development relations Tech Lead, Reto Meier. Google had an amazing video prepared about how they want their developers to build magic apps for the customers and at about 24:30 time the first reference was noticed. This came up when Reto was suggesting developers to use as little info as possible from the customers to make their apps work. A girl eating ice cream cone (not sandwich, mind you) was featured along side Android mascot, Bugdroid, enjoying a tasty slice of a Key Lime Pie.

The second reference came up at about 44:30 when Google was showing a Final Fantasy like game which features Bugdroid as a monster fighting hero along with his comrades Sergey Brin, Larry Page and Reto Meier. In this reference, when the Bugdroid is required to summon giga-stan, "Jelly Bean" and "Key Lime Pie" comes up in the list of spells available for the monster fighters.

Was the presence of these a hint of an upcoming Android upgrade or a troll by Google is still just a guess but nevertheless we do have to say kudos to Google to come up with these especially people were expecting either the release of Android 4.3 JellyBean or Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie at this I/O. If you wanna have a look at the complete presentation, here you go.

Cydia arrives on Android in form of a substrate

Any iOS user who has ever heard of jailbreaking or customizations, even remotely, sure knows about Cydia. It has become the symbol of jailbreaking as many people consider their iDevice to be jailbroken successfully only after they have Cydia installed.

It is the jailbroken app and tweaks store that turned heads when it came to iOS devices back in 2008 for installation of third-party applications. It grew with the increase in the number of iDevice users who wanted the jailbreak and the tweaks that came with it. Now, almost every iDevice user knows about it and it has become synonymous with iDevice customization. Although iOS' main competitor, Android, has always been ahead in the game of after market customizations and mods, tweaks from Cydia sure have kept iOS in the race and now the Cydia substrate has arrived on Android as well, courtesy of Jay Freeman, also known as Saurik and the creator of Cydia.

As you may have noticed, Saurik has released only the Cydia Substrate, the framework used to inject code into the apps of different developer, and not the complete Cydia Store which is seen on iOS devices. As a matter of fact, this is quite similar to another Android tweak known as Xposed Framework which has been around for a more then a year now but Saurik has already answered the issue with the differences between the two here.

As it turns out, the only tweak available in the Cydia Substrate app is the WinterBoard. Many iOS users use this and although it is just a theming app at its core, it is one of the very powerful tweaks that can be used to change the looks of any part of the ecosystem. In case of Android, it supports themes by other customizations platforms such as CynagenMod theme chooser, ADW Launcher, Go Launcher Ex, Launcher Pro and dxTop. You can know more about its working, applications and substrate itself on Cydia Substrate website,

It is understandable for Saurik (Jay Freeman) to grace the landing of his most popular creation, Cydia, on Android by the release of just the substrate but even this substrate can be used by developers to cook up some news tweaks and lets hope this happens fast so that we can have more things to have fun with.

The Substrate can be installed on any rooted Android phone running Android 2.3 Gingerbread and above. It is present as an application on Google Play Store and weighs at a measly 158KB.

BBM is coming to Android and iOS

BBM has been one of the most appealing features of BlackBerry ecosystem since its launch and is considered the father of all the chatting applications (like WhatsApp, iMessage and Viber) that float around these days. It inspired these all and it still remains one of those features which makes people go for BlackBerry smartphones. But with the rising popularity of iOS and Android even the guys over at BlackBerry are starting to acknowledge the strength of these ecosystems and it looks like they have a decided to get a piece of the cake for themselves too. As it says in the heading, BBM is coming to Android and iOS.

BlackBerry CEO Thornstein Heins announced during BlackBerry Live 2013 conference that BBM will be available as a third-party app for both the ecosystems and it will be supported on all iOS devices that run at-least iOS 6.0 and all Android devices that run at-least Android 4.0 ICS.

The app will be live on Apple App Store and Google Play Store this summer and will only support BBM chats, multi-person chats, voice note sharing and BlackBerry Groups (where users can share calendar, photos, files etc with a group) initially. But as Thornstein mentioned on stage, they plan to make BBM a full featured application on both the ecosystems equipped with all the latest BBM features such as voice call, video call, screen share and the recently announced Channels as well.

While BBM on iOS and Android may be very behind in the acceptance curve when WhatsApp and iMessage are put in the comparison with it but there is no doubt that BBM still has a certain level of appeal that these services are yet to match.

Latest GTA V trailer features the three protagonists

Grand Theft Auto game series has been an amazing success story for Rockstar Games and hence they are doing everything they can to promote the latest iteration of the game, GTA V.

In December, the lid was blown off and it was leaked that the game will in-fact feature not one but three main characters a.k.a. protagonists. As this is the first time this is happening in the series, its fans were bound to get excited. Instead of crying over the spilt milk, Rockstar Games took some promotion benefit from it and to keep the buzz from going off, they released some in-game screenshots of the game back in the month of March. Although they were quite helpful in realizing the graphical strength of the game but Rockstar was still mum about the three protagonists. But today they have sorted that out by releasing a new teaser trailer for the game featuring the three protagonists.

The video is divided into three parts - each dedicated to a character. It shows the back-stories of Michael, Franklin and Trevor and let us know why they do what they do in the game. Lets not spoil the fun of watching the video. Here you go.

The game does look intriguing and Rockstar is trying its best to make this feeling sustain. The Xbox and PlayStation versions of the game are supposed to hit the shelves on September 17 and PC version, which is still in works, should hit the market in 2014.
