Apple's latest and greatest iPhone launched in September last year with a catchy tag line, "Biggest thing to happen to iPhone since iPhone". Though it had an amazing sales run in Fiscal Q3 2012, it still couldn't reach the expectations of analysts and it even lost it throne of the most selling smartphone to Samsung Galaxy SIII but as always, the regime had to fall. According to the latest report from Strategy Analytics, Apple iPhone 5 was the single best-selling smartphone for Fiscal Q4 2012.
Quite surprisingly, even iPhone 4S managed to topple off Samsung's flagship by a couple of million units. According to the report, Apple managed to sell 27.4 million iPhone 5 units and 17.4 million iPhone 4S units, while Samsung sold 15.4 million Galaxy S3 units, during the holiday quarter. There is one thing very noteworthy in the report, though, that these three phones managed to sweep off a whoping 27.7% of the total smartphone shipments for Q4 '12.
Samsung may have lagged a bit for now, but it is planning to launch its next flagship soon in New York, if the rumors are to be believed. It is going to be interesting to see the tussle between Apple's and Samsung's respective flagships as they fight for the throne of "the king of smartphones".
