Since iOS 6 was released back in September 2012, everyone has been waiting for an untethered jailbreak to come along the way. A lot of speculation and rumours had already made rounds, iPhone 4 and lower devices even got a tethered jailbreak during the process, but there was always a wait for the untethered jailbreak to surface because that would mean freedom to all devices, be it the iPhone 5, iPad 4 or iPad Mini. Recently, some of the major players, of the cat and mouse game, @pimskeks @planetbeing @pod2g @MuscleNerd, between Apple and jailbreakers, came together as a team of evad3rs to develop the ultimate jailbreaking tool for all devices running on iOS 6 and iOS 6.1 as well. The website for the tool, evasi0n, went live some days back and now the tool has been launched.
The jailbreak is supposed to be pretty simple but there are some catches. Also, there are instructions on their official website, evasi0n.com. So, lets have a look at how to do it.
Step 1: Update your iDevice to the latest iOS it supports. You can either get this done through iTunes or click here to get the suitable IPSW for the update.
Note: As Apple tries to make it very hard to downgrade to your previous iOS version, in case you don't like the new one or get fed up with its maps, you should backup and save your SHSH blogs just in case. You can find out about how to go through with the easy process by clicking here.
Step 2: Plug in your updated iDevice into your computer and use iTunes to back it up.
Step 3: Go to evasi0n.com and get the appropriate version of evasi0n tool for your operating system.
Step 4: After downloading and unzipping the downloaded file, click on evasi0n icon from the folder.
Step 5: After clicking on evasi0n icon, the tool will open up and it kind of reminds me of absinthe jailbreak tool for iOS 5.x versions by greenpois0n team.
Step 6: Now, when the tool says you iDevice is supported, like it says above, click on Jailbreak.
Note: iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G users who already have the tethered jailbreak, should restore to stock iOS 6 version before the jailbreak, evasi0n, reaches 100%.
Step 7: Now, when the evasi0n tool is done jailbreaking the iOS, it will place a Jailbreak on your iDevice's springboard itself.
And now the process requires you to click on this Jailbreak icon to complete the jailbreaking process.
Step 8: After you click the Jailbreak icon, the work of evasi0n tool is completed.
Now when the work of the jailbreaking tool, evasi0n, is completed, the iDevice will restart, and it may restart a several times, and when it boots up, it has got untethered jailbreak installed on it. Voila you have a jailbroken iOS 6 iDevice.!
And now, you will also see the very friendly Cydia icon placed on your springboard.
Now, you can click on Cydia. It will load its filesystems for the first time and exit upon completion in order to successfully load the files it needs to work properly and efficiently.
And now when you again fire up Cydia, it will be working normally. Now, you can enjoy the true power of your iDevice and can mess with its looks with the help of tweaks. With a jailbroken iPhone you can change operator icon, lockscreen themes, even skin the whole iOS interface and get paid apps for free with the help of AppCake. And this is just the beginning you can turn your iDevice into a whole new thing with the help of Cydia tweaks and now that every iDevice can be jailbroken easily, things and tweaks are going to get really interesting.
