Changes in iOS 6.1

Although Apple's iOS 6.1 isn't officially out yet for the general public but Apple has released its Developer-only beta version. So, i thought of giving normal users a sneak-peak to what they might get when Apple eventually launches the public version and everyone upgrades. So, lets get to it after a break.

I am going to feature three major updates that have been spotted as of now only, but you can always have a look at the complete change-log from Apple by clicking here.

Now, lets have a look at the major three.

  1. Apple Maps

By this heading most of you may have thought that Apple has updated its faulty maps and corrected all the accuracy and data issues it is having since its launch. But that demand will be on the wishlist only as of now and isn't being answered. Instead Apple has just put a very prominent 'Report a Problem' button in the Maps UI which can be revealed by pulling the corner tab(in a curtain raising type fashion). This tab takes users to a windows to report any kind of issues you have with the app. Everyone expected a maps update, but seeing Apple moving in right direction is not a bad thing after all.

2. Lockscreen Music Controls

Apple has changed its 'Aqua UI' of lockscreen music controls to its new slider and spread out buttons, matching to the way they are displayed in its native Music App.

3. SIRI update

Siri, Apple's virutal assistant app, now shows an option to purchase movie tickets through Fandango as a new functionality in addition to the option of locating cinemas and showing movie schedules. Of course, this is US-only for now but its good to see Apple is expanding Siri's horizon, which is now present on iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad Mini and iPod Touch 5th generation.

These are the major changes spotted by the users and developers on iOS 6.1. Of course, developers can have fun with the new juicy APIs and find out about them by clicking here.

We will keep you updated about any other changes Apple seeds in its next beta. Also, when it comes out we advise you to keep your distance from it if you want to hold on to your jailbreak. Do tell us your views about this by leaving a comment, we'll be interested in hearing from you.

Update [05.02.2013] = iOS 6.1 has now been released along with iOS 6.x untethered jailbreak, evasi0n.
